Tzepor, The Making of a Sculpture

By October 30, 2017 No Comments

As you may or may not know, I recently moved my studio to a new location. I also moved out of a storage unit, packed to the gills with a lifetime’s worth of stuff. These two transitions took me all summer to complete. In all this moving I a came across boxes that I hadn’t opened in over 10 years.

Wading through the stuff, I found my metal tools, my torch, and my metal scrap. Like reuniting with old friends, it was a happy day.

Here is the first sculpture I had made in many years. I was so engrossed in the process I couldn’t wait to get back to the studio.  Below are pictures showing the evolution of the piece-starting with the wire armature, and then added layers of recycled aluminum, copper, and more wire. Heated, soldered, and manipulated further. Lastly, feathers were added, made from silk that was painted and then singed–it worked perfectly.

I am totally hooked..again, I can’t wait to work on my next one.
